The occupational form after a burn accident

Popis: Introduction: The occupations are activities in which people engage daily, with purposes, meanings and extention over time. Several situations can influence the engagement in occupations, especially changes in health conditions such as burns. Objective: To understand the occupations of people after a burn accident and their repercussions, especially on the occupational form following the accident. Method: Qualitative research, anchored in the phenomenological perspective, held at the Burn Treatment Center of the Metropolitan Ungency and Emergency Hospital of Para, from December 2010 to January 2011. Nineteen people participated under the theoretical approach of the Science of Occupation, in which the study focused on the investigation of burn impact on occupational form. Results: The study results revealed significant changes in the occupational form, affecting the health, well-being and quality of life of those people. The main changes were related to physical and functional limitations and psycho-emotional consequences. Conclusion: This study contributed to improve the knowledge about the burn repercussions issue for human occupation from an expanded and comprehensive perspective of health, biopsychosocial and human occupational understanding.
