Popis: The farther away a country from the center of modernization, the more it is observed to be committed to the concept of tradition and nation. In Turkey, the modern movement is a process which was developed in the Ottoman period and shaped with the republic. The last period of the Ottoman Empire, a lot of events, people and movements can be read together with modernism. Similarly Bulgaria, performances existed in a more special way together with history, folklore and socialist ideology, which are people's own image; folklore, history and musical instruments assumed the role of representing the national identity during the socialist period. In the countries with a similar modernization history within the decades, which can be considered close to each other, western searches were performed with traditional musical instruments, and new orchestral structures, where the traces of modernization can easily be identified, were established. 'Kemenche Quintet' of Arel (1880-1955), 'Balalaika Family' of Vasilievich Andreyev (1861-1918) and 'Gadulka Family' of Koutev (1903-1982) became the parts of the modernist movement which tried to materialize its own intellectuality within the enlightenment, rationalism and positivism. In this article, the past of the 'modern movement' will be discussed over traditional instruments, the mediator points between traditional and modern will be sought, the perception and traces of the 'westernization' and 'modernization' idea on traditional instruments will be evaluated over balalaika, kemenche and gadulka instrument families. Thus, the methods of literature review, classification, analysis and synthesis, which are specifically unique to history, will be used, sources of personal archives will be stated, and interviews will especially be evaluated. The discourses related to modernism and westernization will be read in line with the instrument families, and the phenomenon of westernization of societies, which can come 'together' in many aspects such as demographic, historical - geographical characteristics and social structure, will be investigated over the instrument families established as an alternative to the western orchestra.
