Conceptualization of the Phenomenon of Women’s Social Position in International Educational Discourse

| Popis: | The article studies conceptualization of the phenomenon of women’s social position on the basis of the language material of Russian as a foreign language coursebooks published in Russia and abroad in the period from 1995 to 2015. The aim of the study is to determine the specific features of the national conceptual systems in relation to the cognition of a fragment of the world about the place and role of women in modern society. The specific features of conceptual systems are revealed via a comparison, confirming the processes of mutual penetration and enrichment. 30 Russian and foreign textbooks have been analyzed, 5 and 7 of which were selected, respectively, for the analysis of thematic sections covering the life of a woman (primarily Russian). The selected semantic constructs, interpreted as generalized mental units of operational memory and knowledge verbalized by means of language, allowed the authors to discern a significantly greater number of semantic features of the concept in question in foreign textbooks of Russian as a foreign language, which may indicate a violation of the strategy of linguocultural correlation in these manuals. It is emphasized that when cognitive gaps are detected, the Russian conceptual system can be enriched with new knowledge brought into it by a different conceptual system. |
