The foundation of the Church of Saints Bartho-lomew and Stephen, the new headquarters of the Dominicans in Bergamo, dates back to the late 16th century. The project is due to Antonio Maria Caneva, a cultured and multifaceted figure, connoisseur of the golden ratio and expert in the use of perspective, to which is perhaps due the will to connect the building’s design to a strict re-spect of proportions. New surveys and diagnostic investigation, carried out both using traditional methods and modern technologies of 3D laser scanning, have attempted to address the lack of documentary material and, at the same time, to initiate a process of interpretation aimed at im-proving the geometrical knowledge of the mo-nument, also in view of establish the now urgent interventions of conservation. |
