| Popis: | All through the 20th century, the global reputation of the Nation as a social and welfare laboratory has been a pivot of Swedish self-identity and a powerful marketing tool. By the sixties, the neologism Sverigekritik marks the fading of such a mythical aura: rather than the prefiguration of a better future, Sweden seems now to represent a warning. Through the travel chronicles of four writers, written between 1969 and 1982, the essay examines the physical and mental paths between which the pilgrimage in modern Eden unfolds – and turns into disenchantment. The latter seems both to anticipate the Nation’s move from Utopia – and to mirror it. |
