Cultural and information centers as a component of cultural diplomacy

| Popis: | The article examines the features of cultural and information centers activities in terms of implementing cultural diplomacy and ensuring national interests. It is found that cultural and information centers, which can operate both as independent institutions and structural units of diplomatic missions, play the key role in distribution of information for the purposes of construction of the national positive image. Crucial factors and conditions for ensuring the effective operation of cultural and information centers are determined as well. Special emphasis is made on the analysis of cultural and information centers priorities, such as the provision of information, coordination, and educational services. The article also examines the features of cooperation between the centers and national diaspora representatives. It is determined that such cooperation can be realized in the following forms: celebration of national holidays, performances of folk groups and representatives of contemporary pop music, exhibition and sale of paintings, works of folk artists, and literary works of both classic and contemporary writers of the country they represent. Much attention is given to the operating experience of the Ukrainian cultural and information centers, as well as to achievements and shortcomings in their work. |
