Chitosan as a fungicide from shrimp exoskeleton

Popis: This study focuses on the production of chitosan from the shrimp shells (collected from seafood residues) by a chemical method, which consists of the demineralization, deproteinization and deacetylation of chitin. The purpose of this study is to determine the fungicidal effects of the chitosan obtained using an additive in different concentrations (5% and 10%) for Sabouraud dextrose agar culture medium, in addition to a control medium and subsequently being inoculated with an isolated fungus. After 72 hours, in both concentrations a total inhibition was obtained in the inoculum growth while in the control sample a remarkable growth was observed, proving its effectiveness as a fungicide.
