The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the perception toward the teaching profession and the hopelessness level of fourth grade students of the Dokuz Eylül University Buca Faculty of Education, Computer And Instructional Technology Teacher Education Department and the factors these depend on. The study was conducted in the academic year 2013-2014 with 49 pre-service teachers. The “Perception Scale Towards the Teaching Profession” and the “Beck Hopelessness Scale” were used in this study. The arithmetic mean, t-test and one-way variance analysis (ANOVA) were applied for the statistical analysis of the perception score in normal distribution conditions, and the Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal Wallis H test were applied for statistical analysis of hopelessness level, which did not achieve normal distribution conditions. According to the findings of the study, there is a significant negative correlation between the perception of the pre-service teachers toward the profession and their hopelessness level. It was determined that the perception of the pre-service teachers toward the profession and their hopelessness level did not show a meaningful difference according to gender, family income level and reasons for the selection of the profession. |
