One of the most important institutions that supported Anatolia during the collapse of the Seljuk Empire, that protected the Anatolian Seljuk State and established the Ottoman State is Akhism. The Akhism tradition came into being on the Silk Road Markets of the Turkistan lands, fusing with the Persian and Arabian traditions created an idiosyncratic Akhism organisation. Khorasan cities of Merv, Nisabur, Belh, and Heratwere the commerce centers of the Silk Road and the most important source of trade was leather and leatherworks. During the first quarter of the 13th Century Akhi Evran has arrived to Anatolia from the city of Hoy located in the South lands of Azerbaijan, established a guild led by the leather manufacturers of Kayseri and Konya, developed into one of the fundamental institutions in Central Anatolia of the Ottoman Empire.The Akhi Guild is one of the most important cultural codes of Kütahya, in terms of literature the sixth most important of the two hundred and seven cities of the Ottoma Lands, situated at the center of a 7000 year old civilization. In this study, one of the most important Akhi cities Kütahya with its villages, foundations, hamlets, farms, lodges, monasteries, shrines, neighborhoods, masjids, fountains, cemeteries, idiosyncratic names and primarily tanning yards will be investigated and sthe Akhism tradition will be reviewed in this context. |
