Introduction and objectives: We show the results of universal screening of hearing loss in Palencia Health Area from January 2006 to December 2015. The objective is to evaluate the screening program in this province, assessing its degree of coverage, reliability in diagnosing new cases and facilitating early treatment. Method; the screening was carried out using automated evoked hearing potentials from the brainstem (PEATC-a) following the guidelines included in “Castilla y Leon Child hearing loss early detection and integral treatment Program”. Screening cover before new mothers left hospital and children were one month old reached 97%. 96% of children failing the test were retried a second time. 0.19% of cases were sent to diagnosis and false positive rate was 0.09%. 13 cases were diagnosed. Conclusions: After 10 years of the early detection program in Palencia Health Area, the quality objectives have been fulfilled. |
