In the past, many experts (trainers, teachers and doctors), as well as parents, were afraid of applying strength exercise in work with children. They thought this kind of exercise could disrupt the normal development of the bone system and stop growth. However, the results of recent researches do not support this prejudice and do not justify the aforementioned fear. This is why a literature review has been carried out to determine the effects of strength training on the body of children. The collecting of literature data has been done using the search engine (Google Scholar, KoBSON, PubMed) in available journals. Results and conclusions reached by the study's authors show that strength exercises are safe for children, if it is adapted to age, and a carefully planned exercise program with load will provide a solid foundation for later top results in sports activities. To prevent injury and accelerate skill development, the study's authors suggest the participation of children in specific programs to strengthen the muscles and bones. During the application of the program for increasing muscle strength, the technically correct exercise must be taken into account and it must not be exercised with the heavy weights. An adult strength training program aimed at lifting heavy weights to gain results in competitions is not appropriate for children because their organism is physiologically immature for the rapid growth of muscle mass and the defining of musculature. The intensity and extent of training should be adjusted to the child's age, level of exercise and his/her physical predispositions. |
