Popis: During pregnancy significant physiological changes occur in mother. Hormonal changes associated with uterine growth can cause stretching of the abdominal muscles, increasing the waistline and lengthening of the rectus abdominis muscle, causing the formation of diastasis of the rectus abdominis muscle. Objectives: To evaluate the frequency and measures of abdominal diastasis in puerperium and to identify associated risk factors. Method: A frequency analysis was carried out between July 2010 and June 2011, involving 89 mothers of the Instituto de Medicina Integral Professor Fernando Figueira (IMIP). Data were collected through a questionnaire, which was used abdominal diastasis factors associated with maternal age, maternal weight and body mass index (BMI), physical activity, type of delivery, diabetes, hypertension and weight of the newborn, in addition to the measurement of abdominal diastasis.
