Popis: International audience; This presentation explores the performativity of photographic practices during an ethnography of grief in a marginalized city in the north of France called Sarcelles. It describes the socio-spatial experience of an elderly woman in one of the most iconic French "banlieues" and examines how the social reorganization of everyday activities can be studied through sensory and participatory photo-ethnography. Following both a pragmatic (Grasseni 2007) and phenomenological (Cox, Irving, and Wright 2015) approach, this study focuses on the relationship between urban practices, bodily experiences, and visual figurations. It develops a reflection on the politics of visual representations through the ethnographic process and contributes to the development of public anthropology of the sensuous. Concretely, I want to talk about a photographic experience I had with Maryse, an elderly woman born in 1934 in Marseille, whom I met during a visual ethnography (2015-2018) in Sarcelles, one of the most stigmatized cities in France. Based on a presentation that combines ethnographic narratives, photographs, and excerpts from photographic interviews, this presentation aims to question the place of photographic creation within the research process in the era of digital images. For this, I follow a critical and reflexive approach that enhances the performativity of creative experiences in a photographic ethnography. An excerpt of the photographic series is available on LensCulture.
