The liver affects the release and clearance of many hormones, but the interactions between gastrointestinal peptides and liver function have yet to be established. The aim of this study was to evaluate by RIA the serum levels of glucagon, insulin, gastrin, vasoaetive intestinal peptide, gastrin-releasing peptide-GRP, neurotensin, cholecystokinin-CCK, secretin and motilin during acute hepatic cytonecrosis and during liver regeneration in man. The study was performed in ten patients with viral hepatitis (8 virus A and 2 virus B) in the acute phase (alanine transaminase-ALT = 3073 _+ 739 U/L; mean + SEM), and 52 days after the initial evaluation, during clinical and biochemical recovery (ALT = 77+ 26). Only serum GRP and CCK were significantly increased (about 100%; p |
