Tasks of work: 1.To evaluate nursing students' opinion on the choice of nursing specialty. 2. To analyse students‘ opinion about the organization of the nursing program teaching process. 3. To explore nursing students' motivation to learn. 4. To analyse the nursing students' opinions on career prospects. Materials and methods. Questionnaire. 164 nursing students of Vilnius University Faculty of Medicine, Vilnius University of Applied Sciences Faculty of Health Care, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Faculty of Nursing and Kaunas University of Applied Sciences Faculty of Medicine participated in the research. Statistical analysis of the research data was performed using SPSS 13.0 and Excel programs. Results and Conclusions. 1. Usually, nursing specialty choice is motivated by the fact that the completion of the course guarantees the workplace (45.70 per cent) and by a desire to help people (37.80 per cent). 2. All the participants of the research evaluated the lectures giving 7.58±1,33 points on average, higher points were given by the students of the Universities of Applied Sciences. More than a half of the nursing students (59.80 per cent) said that the lectures were interesting and useful. More often it was stated by the students studying at Vilnius University of Applied Sciences and Vilnius University (p = 0.006). 70.10 per cent of the participants evaluated practical training as good; half of the nursing students (51.20 per cent) were satisfied with the studies and they would choose them again (60.40 per cent). Those who studied at Universities of Applied Sciences were more satisfied with their studies. 3. 45.10 per cent of the participants of the research assessed their motivation to learn as reasonable, 47.60 per cent – average. Motivation is increased by: desire to seek knowledge (65.90 per cent), clinical practice (41.30 per cent) and interesting lectures (30.50 per cent). Motivation is decreased by: lack of time (68.3 percent), high workload (45.10 percent) and inappropriate schedule of classes (29.30 percent). Daily self-studies take about two hours. 4. Almost half of the participants of the research (43.3 per cent) are planning to stay and work in Lithuania, the rest have not decided yet (47.0 percent.). Every tenth student (9.80 per cent) is planning to leave. More students of Vilnius University (p=0.010) are planning to work in Lithuania. The majority (76.80 per cent.) are planning to practice their specialty, in hospitals (75.00 per cent). More students' of the Universities of Applied Sciences are planning to choose a specialization (p = 0.001). Nursing graduate studies are going to be chosen more often by students of LUHS (Lithuanian University of Health Sciences) (p = 0.001).
