Use of multimedia in the education of children with dyslexia

Popis: Uporaba multimedija u današnjici je višestruka i primjenjuje se u različitim aspektima života, pa tako i u obrazovanju. Zbog toga se u ovom radu pregledava uporaba multimedija u obrazovanju djece s disleksijom. Obrazovanje je ključno za ostvarivanje na privatnom i poslovnom planu. Njegova važnost je neupitna. Zbog toga je bitno da se svakom pojedincu, od samog početka, pruži jednaka mogućnost za usvajanje znanja i vještina i ostvarivanja punog potencijala. U ovom radu opisuje se što je disleksija i kako izgleda osnovnoškolskom, srednjoškolskom i akademskom kontekstu. Također, navodi se što su multimediji i kako se mogu iskoristiti u redovnom obrazovanju, ali i obrazovanju djece s disleksijom. Isto tako, navode se istraživanja provedena za istraživanje disleksije, ali i uporabe multimedija u obrazovnom okruženju u radu s djecom s disleksijom. U eksperimentalnom dijelu rada istražen je utjecaj uporabe multimedija u obrazovanju djece s disleksijom među studentskom populacijom u Hrvatskoj. Ciljevi istraživanja bili su ispitati koliki postotak učenika je imao prilagođen pristup u obrazovanju kao i koliki je postotak učenika imao osiguran pristup multimedijima tijekom obrazovanja. Isto tako, željelo se ispitati koji su najčešći multimediji koje su imali na raspolaganju tijekom obrazovanja i kakav je utjecaj uporaba multimedija imala na uspjeh u obrazovanju osoba s disleksijom. Dobiveni rezultati pokazali su da je postojana uporaba multimedija u obrazovanju, ali da još uvijek ima prostora za unapređenje jer uporaba multimedija budi zainteresiranost kod učenika/studenata s disleksijom i dovodi do veće angažiranosti, a samim time i boljih rezultata. The use of multimedia nowadays is wide, and it is applied in diverse aspects of life, as well as in educational purposes. Therefore, in this paper the aspect that is being researched is the use of multimedia in the education of children with dyslexia. Education is crucial for being accomplished both on a personal level, as well as a professional one. Its importance is indisputable. Therefore, it is important that every individual be provided with equal opportunities to acquire knowledges and skills and to realize their own full potential from the very beginning. In this paper it is explained what dyslexia is and what it looks like in primary school, secondary school and university context. In addition, the concept of multimedia and the way they can be worked with in regular educational process, but also in the educational process in children with dyslexia is pointed out. Moreover, the research conducted with the purpose of analysing dyslexia was mentioned, as well as the usage of multimedia in the educational environment regarding the education children with dyslexia. In the experimental section of the paper the influence of the use of multimedia in education of children with dyslexia among the student population in Croatia has been examined. The aims of the research were to analyse what the percentage of the students granted with adjusted access to education was and what the percentage of students granted with access to multimedia during their education was. Furthermore, a research goal was to determine which were the most frequent multimedia that they had available in the course of their education and what was the effect of the use of multimedia on the success in the education of individuals with dyslexia. The obtained results have proven a consistent use of multimedia in education, but that there is still place for improvements since the use of multimedia awakens interest in students with dyslexia and leads to a bigger engagement and therefore to better outcome.
