Private educational institutions face many challenges when opening and during educational working, therefore the aim of this research was to examine what challenges private institutions cope with. Seven private educational institutions participated, that is six owners and one director, in this research which was conducted during the 2021/2022 school year. A semi-structured interview was chosen for data collection. The obtained results showed that the biggest challenge for the respondents is financing because they don't have full financial support from the Ministry, while on the other hand they have to adapt to public schools. Despite the challenges they face, there are a number of motivators that drive them as well as the very idea of contributing to Croatian education. Their advantage is certainly a smaller number of children, which enables an individual approach and easier monitoring of the student's development. The focus is on the child and his needs. This is precisely why such institutions emphasize innovation, creativity, socio-emotional development, self-confidence and self-esteem. Also, a quality relationship with parents, who play a key role in the process of schooling students, is nurtured.
