Popis: | This book is dedicated to Olivier Coussy, the prominent scientist and engineer who developed the fundamentals of poromechanics theory that were transformational in many application of civil environmental and petroleum engineering, bioengineering and sustainable development of materials and structures. Olivier passed away on January 15, 2010. He was the colleague and friend of all the contributors to this book. To honor the memory of Olivier Coussy , Ecole des Ponts ParisTech and IFSTTAR (French institute of science and technology for transport, development and networks) have organized a symposium held at Ecole des Ponts ParisTech from April 18 to 20, 2011. The theme of this symposium was chosen after his last monograph (Mechanics and Physics of Porous Solids, J Wiley & Sons, 2010) which embodies his most recent vision of the Poromechanics at the interface between physical chemistry and solid mechanics. Because the interface between those two fields is not often explored as he said, he aimed to bridge the gap between physical chemistry, which governs what happens at the level of the pore, and solid mechanics, which is the natural frame in which deformations, stresses and fluid transport are addressed and quantified at the macroscopic level of the porous material. In this vein the organizing committee of the symposium intended to gather academics and industrials that either develop or utilize the concepts of the mechanics and physics of porous solids as envisioned by the late Pr.Coussy. |
