Vortex-induced vibrations may occur in slender structures such as cables, chimneys, towers and bridge decks. A full analytical description of the phenomenon is still not available, and the procedures used to predict vortex-induced vibrations of structures are still rather crude. The different opinions on how to represent the phenomenon mathematically are reflected in the variety of procedures used in practical designs. |
