| Popis: | International audience; Growing international awareness has been raised in the past years about the need to reflect the world’s cultural and linguistic diversity at the (public) cyberspace. This concern is all the more sensitive in Asia since economic growth and Internet access have unleashed a desire of mutual cultural recognition. New (technological) challenges arise then from these efforts to ‘go multilingual’, which have been tackled through more or less efficient translation mechanisms. Yet, for they often rest on a narrow understanding of linguistic pluralism, these mechanisms fall short from addressing the issue in an effective, sustainable and sensitive way. In this paper, we explore an alternative conception of linguistic diversity and propose an alternative way to tackle it. This paper is structured in two parts. In a first moment, we claim that instead of a ‘problem’ which needs to be ‘solved’ and/or reduced, linguistic diversity is actually a value that should be cherished and furthered. We claim that contemporary Digital Humanities offer the possibility to harness the power of collaboration to help communities of scholars dedicating themselves to the precise translation of cultural texts. In the second part of this pa- per, we present an open source Platform which is dedicated specifically to this goal. Traduxio’s originality is manifold: it goes beyond the language-pair system, al- lows for precise suggestions and uses collaborative device. |
