Popis: The rural countryside in Europe has many functions, such as the production of food and the provision of ecological processes and services, which are encapsulated by the term multifunctionality. The aim of the current project is to provide insight into strategies - and implementation through the adoption of suitable instruments - of sustainable management practices that allow for these multiple functions. Emphaisi is given to landscape ecological concepts, such as landscape heterogeneity and the institutional desig to promote multifunctionality. The document at hand deals with the second year of the project. This document presents a common conceptual and theoretical framework that allows for the inclusion of multiple actor behaviour and feedbacks from policy makjers. The documents also elaborates on the case study areas in France and the Netherlands.
