Popis: | The observed shape of cells can be understood and simplified to a contractile surface with a volume preservation constraint. Vertex Models are a suitable approach to simulate such systems and seek to simulate their behaviour numerically and impose surface minimisation with a penalisation of the volume variations. However, owing to the discretisation of the surface, the numerical solution presents some deviations with respect to the expected results in continua. This project aims at studying these deviations and pitfalls, which correspond to the formation of so-called bands. General both 2D and 3D Vertex Models are first described, and then the motivation of this work from some published results is presented. We show that the numerical interpolation used in the numerical model has some detrimental effects on the nodal distribution, which may, in turn, prevent full convergence when searching for the solutions of the non-linear equations. |
