Popis: Beam Angle Optimization for Intensity-Modulated Radiotherapy Conflicting criteria arise when planning intensity - modulated radiation therapy for cancer treatment. That is delivering homogeneous and sufficient dose of ionizing radiation to the target and sparing organs at risk. These objectives may be accomplished by solving beam angle optimisation (BAO) problem, which is still widely ignored in clinical practice and beam angles are usually selected manually based on experience of the physician. This paper aims to optimise dose distribution in tissues by solving BAO problem. Consequently, BAO and fluence map optimisation (FMO), that is necessary to solve BAO, problems are studied. Global optimisation algorithm simulated annealing is used to solve BAO as it is multi – extremum problem. Results of solving BAO with prostate data are presented. It is observed that solving BAO may contribute to better sparing of organs at risk without reducing dose delivered to the target.
