Popis: Postoperative complications after resection of esophageal cancer were reviewed among 69 cases in our department. They were respiratory complications (31.8 per cent), anastomotic leakage (43.5 per cent), pyothorax (4.3 per cent), postoperative bleeding (4.3 per cent), late bleeding (2.9 per cent), postoperative hepatitis (8.7 per cent) , and toxic epidermal necrolysis (1.4 per cent). Cardinal complications, i.e. respiratory complications and anastomotic leakage were analyzed. There were no relations between their incidence and length of operative time, amount of bleeidng during operation and staging of cancer. Small air way obstructions were suggested by preoperative lung function test among most of the cases with respiratory complications. Fifty per cent of anastomotic leakage occurred after respiretory complications. The incidence of anastomotic leakage was greater in the antethoracic route than in the other reconstructive procedures. Operative death rate was 7.2 per cent.
