Red mullet (Mullus barbatus) and red striped mullet (Mullus surmuletus) are representatives of the Mullidae family that lives in the Adriatic Sea. Red mullet is equally widespread throughout the Adriatic Sea. It usually lives on muddy and sandy bottoms at a depth of 5 to 250 meters. Like other members of this family, it has a high economic significance. For the purposes of making this graduation thesis, 120 specimens of red mullet from commercial catches from Adriatic Sea were analyzed in the period from June to August 2020. Total body lenght of the analyzed specimens was from 11,5 to 18,3 centimeters, and the weight was from 12 to 65 grams. The mean value of body lenght of specimens was 16,16 centimeters and the mean value of mass was 43,9 grams. Macroscopic and microscopic analysis of the gonads revealed that spawning of red mullet in Adriatic happens in June.
