This paper presents a study of crisis strategies among twenty Danish fashion and textile companies that chose different paths to cope with the COVID pandemic. Surprisingly, most of the companies emerged from the pandemic stronger and more prosperous. To understand what happened, we present four types of crisis strategy characterized in terms of how they handle the exploitation-exploration dilemma. We combine in-depth qualitative case study with quantitative analysis of annual reports to show how the various strategies affected financial performance. Finally, we discuss the role of strategic intuition among CEOs in strategic decision making. |
