Popis:	International audience; This paper looks at innovation-oriented behavior at French firms and considers, in particular, the relationship between such behavior and absorptive capacity. Special emphasis will be placed on the notion of competencies and especially on how they are linked to innovation. The objective of this study is to define the principal competencies that drive innovation. Econometric results show that R&D investments by French firms are intended not only to promote the acquisition of competencies but also to incite innovation.
