The theoretical part of the master’s thesis gives an overview of the basic concepts related to the creation of ionizing radiation and, in general, the generation and classification of waste. Also, radionuclide generator containing a chromatographic column in which, the parent radionuclide (99Mo) was adsorbed is described. The separation of the parent radionuclide and progeny radionuclide (99mTc) produces the 99mTc eluate, which is the starting material for the synthesis of all radiopharmaceutical preparations. The used generator and the materials that are left behind after the administration of the radiopharmaceutical preparation to the patient (needles, syringes, cotton wool, etc.) become the radioactive waste and as such needs to be adequately disposed of. The master’s thesis describes the structure of the radionuclide generator and elaborates a detailed procedure for the management and disposal of medical radioactive waste. |
