Popis: We conducted a web survey with members of three online open innovation communities and present here our findings on the member characteristics and participation. We found that most of the respondents were male and the mean age of the respondents was 37 years (min=19, max=64), which is higher than for example in OSS (Open Source Software) communities. Most of the respondents were full-time employed. The contribution frequency to innovation was monthly or less frequent, although majority of the respondents reported to visit the community at least weekly. In addition, the respondents were active in other online volunteer work, such as contributing to OSS development and open content communities, like Wikipedia.
