Popis: | The popularization of multicopter drones opens new possibilities for investigations of the atmospheric potential. The method of directly measuring of the electric potential drop of the lower part of the atmosphere has been conducted in the past by means of tethered balloons. In this paper, we investigate the possibility of using multicopter drones to deploy conductive wires to measure the atmospheric potential. Drones provide the advantage to hold the potential probe vertically reaching stable geometry. The main disadvantage of the drone is the short-limited time of flight that does not allow continues measurements. Here we present the results of our first five flights reaching altitudes of 300 m. The potential measurements show linearity and are consistent with previous works until an altitude of 200 m. At that altitude, the occurrence of corona starts to significantly affect. The resulted system impedance resulted be in the range of ~0.7 1010 O which is consistent with previous works. The paper provides guidance for future investigations.
