Popis: Odor and corrosion issues in wastewater collection systems are often dealt with in a reactive manner providing temporary and commonly inefficient solutions. Considering that these are common and costly problems for utilities, there is a need for the development of integrated, cost-effective strategies to mitigate these issues. This paper focuses on the insights gained through the development and implementation of the latest innovations in tools that simulate collection system sewer biological, chemical and physical processes, the understanding of which is key to solving sewer odor and corrosion problems. Extensive, large and complex sewer networks have been evaluated using this simulation tool (Mega-WATS) with the goal of solving in-sewer problems and related management strategies. The three diverse case studies presented show that while process modelling of collection systems allows for proper odor and corrosion mitigation strategies, it also indicates transformations in the wastewater characteristics as wastewater flows to the treatment facilities.
