Popis: Aerogels are materials with a great porosity, a very low density and a high surfase area. Furhermore, aerogels have the lowest thermal conductivity of any known solid. This characteristic allows to the material to use it as building insulation. In addition, carbonaceous nanomaterials such as carbon nanofibers (CNFs) are added to improve the mechanical resistance of these interesting materials. These nanomaterials exhibit exceptional physical and mechanical properties. The development of nanomaterial-based polymer aerogels is carried out by the sol gel method using freeze-drying process to dry the wet gel. Freeze-drying has several advantages compared to another dry methods as the increase of the product stability and the decrease of the loss of volatile substances. Furthermore, the final product has a high porosity with final moisture content below 5 wt. %. In addition, freeze-drying method avoids oxidation problems since vacuum is required. The different operation conditions such as freezing temperature, vacuum pressure, operation time and sublimation temperature are very important parameters, which could influence on the final characteristics of the product. Figure 1 shows the different steps of the freeze-drying method used.
