Popis: Techniques using beaks to estimate age in cephalopods relies on increments observed in the beak microstructure. The daily periodicity of those increments has been confirmed in the full ontogenetic range of Octopus vulgaris (Perales-Raya et al. 2014; 2017). However, little information on the development of cephalopod beaks is available. In this study, we investigated the morphology and morphometry of the upper beaks in O.vulgaris embryos. The main aims are: (1) To describe the beak microstructure during embryonal phase, to understand when the first increment is formed (2) To explore shape modifications during last developmental stages (3) To understand temperature response by comparing the overall dimension of beaks from specimens reared at different temperature conditions.
