In the Upper Albian sediments at the Mareda locality near Novigrad, Istria, eight theropod dinosaur footprints have been found. Carbonate deposits at the locality are characterized by thin-bedded wackestone-packstone, packstone-grainstone and floatstone-rudstone limestones whose structural characteristics and laminated texture as well as their vertical alteration indicate a deposition in the subtidal environment with the characteristics of tidal islands. The late Albian age of the researched deposits was determined based on the stratigraphic ranges of benthic foraminifera Vercorsella sp., Protochrysalidina sp. and Pseudonummoloculina heimi. The footprints discovered on the locality belong to medium-sized theropods (cca 3 m in lenght) and are similar in size and morphology to other theropod footprints from contemporaneous sites in Istria.
