Determining boar meatiness ultrasonographically in a performance test

Popis: Research included 58 Swedish Landrace boars individually assessed by a performance test, after which, at an average body weight of 100, 38 kg, ultrasonography was used to determine fat thickness, and depth and area of long back muscle at four anatomical locations. Data on growth, feed utilization and ultrasound measurements were statistically processed and analysed. Location of the thinnest back fat was determined on the end rib. Correlation of characteristics indicates that the best information on meatness will be obtained by measuring fat thickness and properties of the long back muscle at mid-back and flank.
