Moreover, research has shown that mild ID combined with parental psychopathology make these children particularly vulnerable to developing problems themselves. Therefore, the aim is to adapt and test an evidence-based support group intervention for children of parents with mental illness (COPMI; Van Santvoort, 2013) to the needs of children with mild ID. In this contribution we present the first results of a pilot study. Methods: The existing COPMI intervention of eight sessions is currently being adjusted by a working group consisting of clinicians and clients. Through a pre-test post-test design, qualitative and quantitative data will be collected from an experimental group (n = 6) and control group (n = 6) of children with mild ID, aged 10-14 years. Client experiences with COPMI, social support, negative cognitions about parent (s) and perceived competence will be assessed. Results: Results will be presented. Conclusion: Implication for practice will be discussed. 2 p. |
