Popis: The European roe deer occurs in most of the Netherlands. It is only absent from large polders in Noord-Holland, Zuid-Holland and Utrecht and from some of the Wadden Sea islands. Roe deer are found in a wide range of landscape types, but population density is highest in parkland. They prefer to forage in forest clearings and along forest edges. In the most recent period covered by this atlas, roe deer have established populations in, for example, Zeeuws-Vlaanderen in Zeeland and on the Wadden Sea Island Terschelling. Roe deer population numbers have continued to increase nationally, ever since the introductio of the Hunting Act 1954.
