Popis: The aim of this paper is to discuss IFG’s description of certain subordinate enhancing clauses (of e.g. time) as non-constitutional b-clauses as opposed to prepositional phrases functioning as Circumstance constituents in the simplex clause. This description assumes that the subordinate enhancing clause has the full experiential, interpersonal and textual potential of a clause and that it – unlike the prepositional phrase – realises the semantic categories of figure, move and message. We shall discuss this realisational relationship and argue that the anchoring in semantic categories does not justify different descriptions of the prepositional phrase and the subordinate clause.
