The field of computer science is dominated by men, but it hasn't always been that way. Women in computer science were among the first programmers in the early 19th century and contributed significantly to the development of computer science as a field. As technologies and practices changed, the role of women as programmers changed, and over time computer science became a predominantly male profession. The aim of this work is to investigate which factors influence women's choice of computer science as profession, and whether there are stereotypes related to women and computer science, and what is the current position of women in computer science. The research results showed that women choose computer science because it is a field of the future that offers a secure job and that the role models of parents and teachers have an influence. What demotivates and pushes them away from computing is a lack of self-confidence and prior knowledge, and the feeling of being a minority. The position of women in computer science is improving, but work must be done to attract and motivate women to do computing in order to eradicate the opinion that computing is a "male profession".
