Popis: ntroduction: The definition of nursing which includes the promotion of health and holistic health implies prosperity for the whole human. Ayurveda aims to strengthen the individual and is part of holistic health. In India, among other care methods, Ayurveda is used as a complement to Western medicine. Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) is a collective name for different types of treatments that are complementary and alternative to traditional healthcare. CAM has gained more interest in the western world. It is therefore important to investigate how Ayurveda as a part of a holistic approach can affect nursing care. Aim: The purpose of the study was to investigate how recently educated nurses in Kerala, India perceive Ayurvedic treatment and how it affects nursing care for patients in everyday clinical work. Method: A qualitative design was chosen. Data was collected through semi-structured individual interviews from five nurses. Data was analyzed using thematic analyses. Result: The analysis of Ayurvedic perceptions and impact resulted in three themes; A two sided coin, Ayurveda's impact from a patient safety perspective and the nurse's perception of the patient’s right to choose treatment. The first theme has two categories; Ayurveda as beneficial and, difficulties and challenges. The second theme also has two categories; medical history and vigilance. Conclusion: The study showed the nurses' different views on ayurveda and its impact on clinical work. Important findings from nursing in Kerala, India, were found. The results showed some important aspects to take into account when meeting and treating a patient, benefits, difficulties and challenges were found. Medical history were considered significant to reduce the risk of complications and to ensure patient safety but also take the patient's right to choose treatment in consideration. Erasmus
