Popis: Trabalho final de mestrado integrado em Medicina área cientifica de Urologia apresentado à Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Coimbra Introduction: New immunosuppressive drugs can foster the increase of opportunistic infections in renal transplant recipients. Objectives: The aim of our research was to establish an association between the occurrence of infections and the immunosuppressive drugs regimen, the rejection episodes and the occurrence of death or graft loss. Methods: This retrospective study is aimed at 461 cases of renal transplantation performed in Department of Urology and Renal Transplantation of the University Hospital of Coimbra. We collected the imunossupression and the infection data from these patient‘s medical records. Results/Conclusions: We reported that patients who took polyclonal antilymphocyte preparations developed viral infection less frequently when compared with those who took monoclonal antibodies (p=0,017). The antiviral prophylaxis protocol used in patients taking Timoglobuline, may have reduced the incidence of viral infections. BK poliomavirus infection was not different among those who received tacrolimus and mycophenolate mofetil/myfortic (1,9%) compared with those who didn‘t take this combination (1,59%). Cytomegalovirus infection was associated with Candida infection (p
