Popis: Transport activities and environmental considerations are widely discussed in political and scientific fields. It is accepted that transport causes various environmental impacts ranging from global warming to accidents and local noise. Indeed each transport mode has individual impacts on the environment based on their energy supply systems, their emissions and their infrastructures. Vehicles emit various pollutants and transport infrastructures lead to damages on the ecological systems. In this module, the environmental impacts of transport are explained. First the link between transport and environment is highlighted. After defining the environmental dimension of transport activities, types of impacts per transport mode are discussed. Thirdly, the concept of external costs is introduced and examples of external cost calculations are given. Then innovative concepts for reducing the impact of transport on the environment are mentioned. Technological innovations and best practices at national and local level are shared. Finally, examples of external cost calculations for unimodal road and intermodal transport are shown.
