Popis: | Mestrado de dupla diplomação com a UTFPR - Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná The global demand for lubricants is around 40 million tons and about 40% of that production is lost in processes or accidents. This high demand and waste makes it inevitable to consider another possibility of replacing mineral oil-based lubricants with a renewable source. Many techniques are being developed to achieve more sustainable alternatives, so the production of biolubricants from vegetable oils is a promising market due to its biodegradability and large number of sources. This work aims to investigate the vegetable oil of Curcuma Longa L. as a potential lubricant base and the essential oil of Curcuma Longa L. as a potential biocidal additive, both for machining applications. The method proposes to evaluate the physicochemical properties of vegetable oil of Curcuma Longa L. related to the characteristics of the lubricant (viscosity, thermal stability and wettability) and to evaluate the biocidal activity of three commercial essential oils of Curcuma Longa L using minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) and disk diffusion. From the results, the vegetable oil Curcuma Longa L. showed high viscosity value, high wettability for 1045 steel and aluminum and good thermal stability, promising characteristics to be used as a lubricant base and only one essential oil showed good biocidal activity against Klebsiella pneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus, which indicates that different sources can lead to different bactericidal activities. It is concluded that the oils extracted from the Curcuma Longa L. plant have the potential to be used as a biolubricant. |
