The concept of the contemporary city could be defined as the union between the built environment and an immaterial component, intended both as the space in which human relations take place and as the superstructure of digital spaces created by the pervasive presence of digital systems. A continuous flow of data and information is generated by those systems, and it contributes to define the city as a highly-mutating concept. In this context, data could be analyzed and visualized to better understand the transformative processes which define the city, but they could be intended also as a filter tool which could be useful to create narrations of the city and its mutations. The main purpose of this essay is to investigate how co-design tools and storytelling could be useful to enhance citizens’ involvement with the aim to build new participatory models for much more inclusive and transparent narrations of the cities. |
