Popis: Introduction: This study evaluated the impact of maternal pre-pregnancy BMI (body mass index) on adipose tissue distribution and weight gain in pregnancy, as well as delivery outcomes, in a cohort of women with term, singleton pregnancies with no history of chronic diseases. All participants are part of the CRoatian Islands` Birth Cohort Study (CRIBS), an ongoing project investigating risk factors for the development of metabolic syndrome. Methods: We tested the association of pre- pregnancy BMI values of 171 CRIBS participants with their preperitoneal adipose tissue, biceps and triceps skin fold and waist circumference values in pregnancy, as well as with the delivery mode (vaginal delivery vs. ceasarean section).
