Popis: Towing experiments have been carried out at CNR-INSEAN for a Submerged Towed Vehicle model (STV), running with angles of attack in yaw and pitch. Resistance characteristics and hydrodynamic forces and moments were measured. The experiments were performed in the 13.5 x 6.5 x 470 m CNR-INSEAN towing tank equipped with the Remmers R-62 six component balance. The resistance and static yaw tests were performed with the model mounted upright, while for the pitch tests the model was assembled rotated of 90° to the balance strut. The results show a very constant residuary resistance coefficient, typical of deeply conditions, and are in agreement with the Free Underwater towing results. The predicted full scale towing force at 4 knots results equal to 1250 N. The analytical evaluation of the static stability from the captive results confirm that the STV should be statically stable if the model is towed at the same towing point used during the free tests.
