Popis: The efficiency of a solar cell can be increased by using photon management to make better use of the solar spectrum. In particular a down-conversion layer can be put on top of the solar cell to obtain two low energy (980 nm) photons from one high energy photon. We present the results of different rare-earth doped glasses and glass ceramics and the estimates of their internal energy transfer efficiencies.
