In this report the main results related to the activity of the microseismic survey in the Aluto-Langano geothermal exploration are presented. The contents of this report, after a review of the existing seismological studies in the area, mainly concern data acquisition and processing, earthquake location and velocity model reconstruction, elaboration of the network bulletin, interpretation and informative contribution of microseismic results for the geothermal assessment of the area. According to ICEIDA (2014) requests, the micro-seismic survey activity in the Aluto-Langano geothermal area was oriented to: monitoring the micro seismicity, investigate its relation to geology and geothermal activity and integrate these results with those obtained from others geoscientific investigations performed in the framework of the exploration project. The Aluto-Langano Micro-Seismic network (ALMS) was composed by nine seismic mobile stations that were deployed in the study area, as reported in Figure 1. The ALMS network was operated by the Geological Survey of Ethiopia (GSE) and Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) for six months. Institute for Dynamic of Environmental Processes of the National Research Council of Italy (IDPA-CNR) and ELC Electroconsult in cooperation with the GSE and EEP planned and installed the seismic stations. All seismic stations are owned by GSE (2) and EEP (7). |
