HOLISHIP WP 3 addresses hydrodynamic and hydrostatic analysis and optimisation of ships and other maritime assets. A significant number of numerical tools to predict and optimise both the stability and hydrodynamic performance of maritime products shall be prepared for use in integrated design platforms. The CFD tools to be used comprise methods for the prediction of ship resistance and power demand, the assessment of manoeuvrability properties and the seakeeping behaviour of the product. They range from very simple statistical analysis tools suitable for a very early design stage (concept design) to highly sophisticated software packages able to accurately predict specific properties during later project phases (contract design). In today's practice the use of such tools is often time consuming and only loosely integrated with other design processes. The prime objective of WP 3 is hence to adapt a number of promising stability and CFD tools and make them fit for use in the integrated design platforms which will be developed in WPs 7 and 8. |
