The methanol extract of Indigofera tinctoria (50mg/kg p.o) significantly reduced Serum Glutamate Pyruvate Transaminase SGPT (84.6± 6.31) and Serum Glutamate Oxaloacetate Transaminase SGOT (78.83± 3.96) levels from SGPT (126.33±6.88) and SGOT (114.33±6.88) levels in the CCl4 (1.25ml/kg b.w.p.o) induced hepatic damage in rats. The control groups (vehicle: 4%w/v aqueous acacia mucilage) had SGPT and SGOT was 32.83±4.88 and 46.33±6.88 respectively. The Antihepatotoxic activity of Indigofera tinctora was comparable with standard drug silymarin (100mg/kg. p.o.) with SGPT and SGOT of 47±6.16 and 59.33±6.31 respectively.
